Do I need previous experience or boating knowledge?
You will be instructed on the complete operation of your boat. Each boat has a reference manual and all necessary information to ensure your vacation is safe and worry-free. To ensure the success of your holiday, upon confirmed booking, a complete package of required essentials will be forwarded to you.

How long is Lake Koocanusa ? How many hours would it take me to travel the whole lake on a houseboat?
The total lake is 150 KM long, half in CANADA and half in the US . You could travel the Canadian half in app 8 hours but there are too many points on interest so don't rush.
What happens if my boat is damaged?
If you have purchased the buy down insurance you will be responsible for the deductible portion only. The exception is negligent or inappropriate action leading to damage of which you are fully responsible.
What can happen for me not to get my damage deposit back?
Boat damage, inappropriate conduct on the lake, prop damage, out drive or motor damage due to grounding or negligent operation.
Can I put more people on the boat than the recommended number?
You can go 4 people over listed capacity at $75 per person up charge.
Do I have to check in with Sunshine Houseboats throughout the week?
It is recommended that you call in once a day to report your location.
What if I run into trouble in the middle of the lake?
Call us on the boat VHF radio anytime during the day (7 am to 7 pm) or after that time we monitor the radios for emergency situations only.
What happens if my boat breaks down half way through my vacation?
In the rare occasion that you have a breakdown we make every effort to ensure that you can continue your vacation including prompt attention and in unusual occasions boat replacement if practical.
Is there a VCR or DVD? If so, are their movie rentals available?
We are quickly switching to DVD's and is best to bring your own as we have limited rentals available. There are no TV channel's available on the lake.
Is there a CD player?
There are CD players on all boats. We will have available this summer Serius Satellite Radio for a nominal $5 per day charge. You can book ahead for this very popular 130 station option.
Can I travel into US waters?
You can go into US waters, however, you cannot land, meet anyone or anchor.
Is firewood available?
Yes, all the firewood you need is on the shore and you don't need a chain saw.
How are the mosquito's?
If you see one take a picture as they are a rarity.
Where should I get groceries?
Both Cranbrook and Fernie have Safeway and Save on Foods stores. Cranbrook also has Superstore. There are two convenience stores on the lake. The closest liquor store sales are Jaffrey and Elko and of course Cranbrook and Fernie have liquor services.
